In October 2023, Google announced a new spam update targeting cloaked, hacked, auto-generated and scraped spam content in multiple languages, including Turkish, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Hindi, Chinese and others. The aim is to combat spam content and reduce spam results for users worldwide.

However, this new update will take a few weeks to roll out fully in Google Search.

1. Introducing Google's spam update

Google relies on a combination of automated spam-fighting systems and human reviews to identify and demote pages and websites that violate Google's policies.

A system called SpamBrain uses AI and machine learning to better detect emerging spam tactics.

Websites affected by the new spam filter are encouraged to review Google's policies and ensure they comply.

2. Content Google considers spam or misleading

- Hidden text or links that users cannot see but search engines can.

- Automatically generated content with little or no value for users.

- Scraping articles at scale without permission.

- Pages with distracting ads that create a poor user experience.

- Affiliate pages with content heavily focused on making money.

- Using aggressive commercial tactics such as false claims and misrepresenting products or services.

Google may also flag websites as spam if they engage in practices such as cloaking, sneaky redirects or creating "doorway" pages. Any attempt to deliberately deceive search engines will cause problems.
