App researcher and developer Alessandro Paluzzi shared on X (Twitter) that Instagram will let content creators post Reels videos up to 10 minutes long. The aim is to improve the user experience and compete more strongly with TikTok.

However, these tests are still internal, so do not be surprised if you cannot find the new duration on your Instagram account.

Alessandro Paluzzi's post on X about the new duration for Instagram Reels

Currently, official Instagram Reels can only be 15 to 90 seconds long, which many content creators consider too short.

Longer Reels of 3 and 10 minutes will let you post more in-depth content without splitting long videos into multiple parts as before.

However, plenty of data shows that internet users' attention spans are gradually declining. Studies have found that short videos on TikTok or Instagram should be under 1 minute. When videos are longer, user interest immediately drops. Some experts believe the longer duration is intended to insert more ads within videos. Instagram could also follow TikTok by letting users pay to watch longer videos.
